(Cumming, GA; January 15, 2020) — Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee) announced today that longtime director, Mr. Lamar Sexton, recently resigned from the Board for health reasons, effective December 31, 2019. Mr. Sexton has served on the Board for 44 years and represented over 21,000 members of Sawnee’s District #3 (Cumming).
“Mr. Sexton has been a leader on the Board of Directors for many years and much has been accomplished during his tenure,” states Michael A. Goodroe, Sawnee’s President and CEO.
Mr. Sexton has held several Board positions over the years, including Chairman; and was, until his resignation, the Chairman of the Board’s General Activity Committee, as well as an ex-officio member of the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation Board.
“Mr. Sexton first joined the Sawnee EMC Board in 1975 during a time of great challenges facing the cooperative,” states Rodney Reese, Sawnee’s Board Chairman. “He has served with distinction and honor, and we thank him for his service to this great organization,” he adds.
In the case of a “vacant” Board position, the Sawnee Bylaws allow for the Board of Directors to name an individual from that district to fill the vacant Board position.
However, since the term of office for the District #3 (Cumming) Board position ends in approximately seven (7) months, and after thorough review of the various options available, the Board has decided to leave this position vacant until the upcoming director election.
The directorate district meeting where such election is to occur will be held on September 1, 2020. At that time, the members of District #3 (Cumming) will decide “who” will represent them on Sawnee EMC’s Board of Directors.
Information about the Director election process, upcoming important dates and other information about a director election can be found at Sawnee EMC’s website, under the “News & Events” tab.
Additional questions about Sawnee’s director election can be directed to the office of the President and CEO, attention Mrs. Kristi Sheriff.
