Scam Continues to Affect Sawnee EMC Members and Other Power Companies

A scam that affected many Sawnee EMC members in January is occurring again.

The staff of Sawnee EMC is notifying its members to continue to be vigilant regarding these types of calls. It is important to reiterate that the scam occurs when an electric customer receives a call regarding the imminent disconnection of electricity service that a payment with a prepaid debit card is required. Additionally, if you call the phone number back, it even has the recording that sounds just like Sawnee EMC’s (or another utilities) automated phone system. This is because the recording has been duplicated by the scammers. If you receive a call like this, please do not respond and call Sawnee EMC directly if you have any concerns.

Please note, Sawnee EMC will never request payment via a prepaid card and our staff does not call to notify a member that electric service disconnection is imminent.

Please share this message with your friends and family.
