(CUMMING, GA) Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC) announced today that its Board of Directors has approved a retail rate decrease effective on energy bills being sent out from January 2021 through March 2021.
This rate reduction will occur in Rate Schedule “R”, Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment Clause (WPCA), a billing component included in most Sawnee EMC rate schedules. This action will affect all Sawnee EMC residential accounts and most commercial accounts.
“We are very glad that we can have this adjustment for our members,” states Michael Goodroe, Sawnee EMC President and CEO. “The Board of Directors and staff of Sawnee understands the economic hardships many of our members have experienced during this pandemic and that some continue to be impacted.” He further stated, “We are glad to strategically lower the WPCA for these three months.”
This Board action will reduce the WPCA from its current value of $0.0250/kWh to $0.010/kWh for all applicable energy billed under this rate from January 2021 through March 2021. This change will result in savings of approximately $22.50 for every 1,500 kWh of energy billed in this time period.
It is important to note, the actual amount of the planned rate reduction for each member during this period will vary and is dependent on the level of energy used each month by each account.
The 2021 WPCA reduction is part of Sawnee EMC’s ongoing COVID-19 pandemic response plan and further supports the cooperative’s efforts made earlier in 2020 such as a delayed base rate increase, the institution of system wide six (6) month payment plan for past due amounts, a $10 million Special Retirement of Patronage Capital and the waiving late fees and disconnections for a period of time.
