Plug In Electric Vehicle Rate

Sawnee EMC Revises Plug-In Electric Vehicle Rate
Friday | April 17, 2020
All News

CUMMING, GA – The Sawnee EMC Board of Directors recently took action to revise the Sawnee EMC Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) rate.  This rate change will become effective on May 1st and makes it more cost effective for Sawnee EMC members to be able to charge their electric vehicle with “off peak” energy.

As Sawnee EMC’s membership grows, so does the number of people utilizing electric vehicles in their day to day life.  Many of these members are turning to Sawnee for more economical options for charging their vehicle.

“One of the most common questions we receive from members who have or are considering buying a PEV is if Sawnee has a special rate for charging their car,” states Blake House, Vice President of Member Services.  “The answer is yes; and with the revised base charge reduction, it makes it easier for a PEV owner to justify the process of getting a second meter specifically to charge a vehicle,” he further adds.

Effective May 1, 2020, a “second meter” that is installed for the purpose of charging an electric vehicle, will have a reduced base charge of $12 per month.  This is a 57% reduction from the stand-alone base charge under the PEV rate.  The PEV rate charges a reduced kilowatt-hour rate for electric that is used at night or “off peak” for charging an electric vehicle.

“As one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, our service territory is seeing an uptick in PEVs,” states Michael Goodroe, President and CEO.  He further adds, “This rate change offers more flexibility to members interested in alternative transportation options.”

Sawnee EMC members that have an electric vehicle are encouraged to visit www.sawnee.com/pev to view all rate options, and other information, in detail.

Sawnee EMC members with questions about electric vehicles can contact the Customer Call Center at (770) 887-2363, by email at customerservice@sawnee.com, by text at 678-999-8124 or chat from the homepage at www.sawnee.com.
